Panel Discussion: Sailing as a Force for Good

Sail News

On September 5 at 6:30 pm EST, a few big names in sailing advocacy will join forces for a panel discussion titled “Sailing as a Force for Good” at Sail Newport. The discussion, which will be presented as a webinar for those who cannot attend in person, will feature speakers from Maiden Factor, The Rozalia Project, and Impossible Dream. This event will be preceded by a boat open house where the community can come and explore the historic ships Maiden and American Promise at Newport’s Fort Adams State Park from 10am-2pm.

Maiden Factor is a girl’s education foundation and advocacy project derived from the all-female 1989-90 Whitbread team. It promotes diversity in the sport of sailing and supports a number of organizations that help underprivileged girls get an education. Currently, they are on a World Tour and have spent recent months visiting a number of American cities aboard the famous boat.

Rozalia Project is a team that walks the walk when it comes to ocean health and advocacy. With the help of Dodge Morgan’s American Promise, they work on cleanup projects and research as well as green ocean education and advocacy.

Impossible Dream is a disability-focused access project that has built a barrier-free catamaran to get wheelchair-bound people sailing. The boat is based out of Miami, but races competitively and is currently on an East Coast tour.
